More than two dozen people were injured after a public transit bus crashed into several vehicles before slamming into a commercial building in Pikesville, a suburb northwest of Baltimore, on Wednesday. The large-scale emergency prompted authorities to declare a mass casualty incident as firefighters, police officers, and paramedics rushed to the scene.

According to emergency officials, the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus collided with multiple vehicles along Reisterstown Road before leaving the roadway and crashing into a nearby building. At least seven other vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction collision, with one vehicle overturning during the impact.

Emergency crews rescued two people who had become trapped—one inside the bus and another inside a damaged vehicle. Authorities confirmed that one victim suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local trauma center, while dozens of others received treatment for injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The force of the crash caused structural damage to the building, prompting officials to request an engineering inspection before anyone could safely re-enter the property. Nearby roads remained closed for several hours as investigators documented the scene and removed damaged vehicles.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore said state officials were closely monitoring the situation and thanked first responders for their swift response. Local and state agencies are working together to determine what caused the crash, though investigators have not yet announced whether mechanical failure, driver error, or another factor played a role.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have urged witnesses to provide any information or video footage that could assist in reconstructing the incident. Authorities are expected to release additional details once the preliminary investigation is complete.
